In Wu Yen-Cheng’s work, cultural mapping, explorations of daily life, and the vitality of natural phenomena form the central focus. Movement has long been his way of creating—shifting perspectives by changing environments, and transforming these experiences into images infused with eccentric humor and fantastical imagination. His artistic approach spans writing, painting, photography, and sculpture.
Since 2013, Wu has carried out the ten-year project Here Is Where We Meet, a residency-based journey around Taiwan that seeks to understand local cultures while re-examining the relationship between people, nature, and environment.
In 2023, he was selected by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture for a residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute, where he launched When the Myth Begins to Think. This ongoing project reconstructs cosmologies of human, nature, and divinity through cross-cultural encounters, creating poetic and immersive works that explore how mythology continues to shape contemporary imagination.
